I started with ideation sketches, thinking through the forms of different vehicles and how they transfer into Playsam's style.
I Narrowed down my options to two choices: The Hang Glider and the Concorde. A tough choice, but I decided that the Hang Glider fit more with Playsam's style, and was more realistic to build.
The next step was to start making models. This meant a constant back-and-forth between the shop and solidworks, constantly modifying plans. Along the way, I decided to move away from the ring shaped bottom to a shape that allowed it to sit on a desk without a stand, and more closely represented a real glider.
The final model was cut from wood. After what seemed like hundreds of hours of sanding and priming, I came out with a product I was satisfied with.
To me, this final design represents freedom and playfulness, as well as the simplistic elegance Playsam is known for.
