Goal
Update the care.coach tablet enclosure to fit Samsung A7L tablets, while reducing machining and assembly complexity.
Ideation
Some of the main problem areas identified in the previous design were the number of parts and the complexity of those parts. To address this, we decided to reduce the enclosure design to a front, back, and stand that could fit within the screen cutout. Other problem areas included the center of balance, camera angle, and button access.
Prototyping and testing
We tested multiple support designs to compare machining time, assembly complexity, and strength. The design we settled on was a large stand that would be bent at an angle using heat. This provided a large surface area for gluing, reduced machining time, and stability.
Final Product
